feedback on my last article! I really appreciated all the comments and personal insight. Anyhow, I decided to play GM For A Day, and do a Buffalo Sabres 2018 offseason plan! So let me know what you guys think in the comments below!Buffalo starts the summer with just over $18 million in cap space Jack Eichel T-Shirt, so I have made these moves based off this season's salary cap, which is $75 million.Let's start with the draft Mattias Samuelsson Face Mask. Although highly unlikely based off Buffalo's luck with the lottery, I have the Sabres winning the first overall pick, and selecting defenseman Rasmus Dahlin. As this is a one season projection, the other selections I made in the mock draft didn't play a pivotal role in the upcoming season; therefore I have not included them in this article. After the Draft, I chose to buyout the contracts of defenseman Zach Bogosian and forward Matt Moulson https://www.buffalofanstoreonline.com/Stefanos_Lekkas_Flag-217. Bogosian has been a serviceable defenseman; however his constant battle with the injury bug and his $5M+ cap hit, became expendable. His buyout cost $1,142,857. The buyout of Matt Moulson was a no-brainer; however cost quite a bit more, at $3,666,667.Moulson's buyout cap hit is a little rough, but only carries one more season at $666,667. Bogosian's buyout cap hit hurts a little more, carrying the same value the following season, then costing $2 million for the following 2 seasons.I also squeezed a couple of trades in before the re-sign period began. I dealt Johan Larsson to the Arizona Coyotes for a 2019 fourth round pick. Larsson had been a third line center at best, but with the emergence of Casey Mittelstadt, and the depth of centers in free agency, I chose to go a different route. Also, I dealt the rights of Robin Lehner to the Chicago Blackhawks for a 2019 third round pick. Lehner is a pending RFA, who in my mind hasn't done enough to warrant a long term deal.Lastly, I dealt Nathan Beaulieu to the Anaheim Ducks for a 2020 fifth round pick. Beaulieu has had an average first season in Buffalo, but with Rasmus Dahlin getting drafted, and the inevitable call up of Brendan Guhle, Beaulieu became expendable.During the re-sign period, I chose to re-sign the likes of Sam Reinhart, Scott Wilson, Nicholas Baptiste, Justin Bailey, Casey Nelson, Victor Antipin and Chad Johnson in net.Reinhart's ELC was up, and I believe he has earned a bridge deal. Two years, $10 million seemed to do the trick. The signings of Wilson https://www.buffalofanstoreonline.com/Kyle_Okposo_Pillow_Cover-170, Baptiste, and Bailey on forward seemed logical to me, as all played well in depth roles last season.Re-upping the likes of Nelson and Antipin on defence also make a lot of sense Rick Martin Hoodie. Nelson will fill a top four role partnered with Guhle, a pairing that has had success at both the AHL and NHL levels. Antipin will slot in nicely as a seventh defenseman, after an up-and-down rookie season Arttu Ruotsalainen T-Shirt.The re-signing of Johnson as a backup to Linus Ullmark provides a familiar face with a veteran presence in the locker room. In my opinion, Johnson is a quality backup who not only knows the system, but can also sub in when necessary and snag a couple of wins. You can find their salaries in the list below.Once free agency rolled around, I was not overly active. That being said, with the departure of Larsson, and keeping Girgensons, Reinhart, and Mittelstadt on the wings. I needed a third line center.I chose to sign Tyler Bozak from the Toronto Maple Leafs, on a short term contract. I gave him a two-year, $10 million deal, which fills the need for the third line, and his deal will be off the books when it comes time to sign players like Guhle and Mittelstadt to long-term deals. To begin the 2018/19 season, this is how the Sabres line up, based off of my Armchair GM decisions:Based off of these moves, the Sabres come in with just under $5 million in cap space to play with, leaving them open to flexibility for other moves as they present themselves. I have attached a link to view the other details about the team, which can be found here: Sabres 2018 Offseason Plan . What do you guys think? Leave a comment with your opinion! Thanks!Paul :)
